Silverstein’s 25 Years of Noise tour made a stop in Richmond Virginia on May 13, 2025 and made quite an impression. Fans of all ages showed up and showed out for the Canadian band that formed back in 2000 from Burlington, Ontario. Their music is described as emo and post-hardcore, but their spirit and enthusiasm also bring feelings of nostalgia the way only a true rock band can.
Openers Greyhaven, Broadside, and Real Friends were a wonderful addition to the night of music, introducing longtime fans of Silverstein, to the fresh talent that lives in the music industry in the current era. Greyhaven has been described as chaotic metal/hardcore originating from Louisville, Kentucky. Real Friends is a band from Chicago whose roots go back to the early pop punk scene of the early 2010’s. What made this show more unique than others is Richmond’s very own, Broadside, got to perform at the National for the first time. Lead singer Oliver Baxxter gave a shout out to his hometown and dedicated an unplanned performance of their song Coffee Talk to Richmond.
At the beginning of Silverstein’s set, audio could be heard over the speakers talking about the history of the band while images and footage of the band was displayed on screens that were built into the risers onstage. Opening the show with background of the history and growth of the band felt like an encouragement of what could happen with dedication and persistence.
From start to finish, there was never a dull moment as crowd surfers were lifted above everyone’s heads the entire night. Even the youngest of fans could be seen rocking out and carried toward stage in the sea of fans, proving the impact the band and this type of music has on all ages.
